Helpful Winter Tips!

  1. Get your heater, defroster, and wiper blades checked out to make sure they are working properly. All of these items are critical for safety, and passenger comfort. Your heater is important for both driver and passenger comfort, and it can be difficult to drive when you are freezing! Your defroster is essential for safety because if it is not working properly it might be hard to see out of your windshield. Lastly, be sure to inspect your windshield wipers and make sure to add wiper blade fluid so you won’t be stuck without!
  2. Inspect your tires! In this wet weather it is very important to make sure that the tread on your tires is at the proper depth. To check your tread depth insert a penny into the tire tread and if you can see Abe’s face then you should consider getting your tires replaced. Also, check your tire wear, because if it is uneven you might need an alignment.
  3. Stop in to Kacal’s to have your brakes inspected. Again, with this wet weather and possible icing of the roads you will want to make sure that your brakes are functionally properly. A brake inspection includes the inspection of: brake linings, rotors, and drums.
  4. When was the last time you checked your vehicle’s lights out? Now that longer nights are among us you will want to make sure that all of your lights are in superior condition.

Other Tips!

  1. Make sure to change your oil every 3,000-5,000 miles. One of the fastest ways to destroy your engine is by neglecting to check or change your oil when it is needed. Automobiles that require gasoline go through something called a gasoline direct injection. This can cause carbon build up issues if the oil is not changed frequently. Call the shop for more details.
  2. Keep your paint looking new by applying a nice coat of wax every 6 months.
  3. Always keep your tires properly inflated. This not only helps with the overall health of your vehicle, but it can also save you money on gas. It is recommended to invest in a tire gauge. They are very inexpensive and easy to use.
  4. Check your battery monthly. Make sure corrosion has not built up on the battery. Change your battery as maintenance every 4 years to prevent a breakdown.
  5. Replace your wiper blades around twice a year, or as needed. Do not wait until you can no longer see you’re your windshield. If you notice that your wipers are damaged or are leaving streaks it is time to replace them.
